About the Instructor
Barb Germershausen has been practicing hatha yoga for 40 years and teaching since 1984. She lived and worked in a Vipassana meditation center in Santa Fe in 1987, and later co-founded and directed Yoga House in Austin, TX from 1989 until 1996. During that time, she helped develop and direct a year-long teacher training and apprenticeship program. In addition, she taught yoga classes for 2-1/2 years to inmates at the Federal Correctional Institution in Bastrop, TX.
After moving to Charlottesville, Barb taught at Living Yoga from 1996 to 2002. When Living Yoga closed its doors, simplyYOGA was born and has occupied a cozy space on Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall since January 2003. In January 2016 Barb received the devastating news that she had eye cancer and subsequently lost her right eye. She has chosen to rock the look with custom eye patches.
Barb presents a gentle, meditative approach to traditional hatha yoga, bringing a sense of humor and compassion to her classes. Her style of teaching offers a comfortable approach for beginners or mature students who may be discovering yoga later in life or revisiting a practice from their youth.
